Daily volunteer readers

Our daily volunteer readers are an essential part of our community, and they play a crucial role in helping us achieve our mission of supporting the independence of our residents. By dedicating their time and effort to reading letters, books, newspapers, and magazines to those who are visually impaired or have difficulty reading, they help our residents stay connected and informed. Thanks to our daily volunteer readers, we are able to provide our residents with the support and resources they need to maintain their independence and quality of life.

Laptop lending program

Our laptop lending program is a valuable resource for our residents who may not have access to a computer or other digital devices. With the help of this program, residents can check their emails, complete online tasks, and even compose letters from the comfort of their own home. This program is designed to support the independence of our residents, allowing them to stay connected with loved ones and access important information online. Our staff is always available to provide technical assistance and support to ensure that residents can make the most of this program. We are proud to offer this service to our residents and are committed to providing them with the resources they need to thrive.

Social services support

Our social services team is a critical component of our community, providing assistance and helpful information to our residents. Monthly tech discussions

Our monthly tech discussions are a valuable resource for our residents, providing them with the latest information and resources on accessibility and new technology. These discussions cover a wide range of topics, from assistive technology and digital accessibility to the latest trends in consumer electronics. Our goal is to help our residents stay up-to-date on the latest advances in technology, and to provide them with the tools and resources they need to access the digital world with ease. By participating in these discussions, our residents can gain valuable insights and knowledge that may have been once unreachable due to the lack of accessibility. We are committed to providing them with the resources they need to stay informed and connected.

Adaptive aids that promote independence

At ABF, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for our residents and promoting their independence. Our adaptive aids program is designed to provide residents with the resources and tools they need to overcome physical challenges and disabilities. From mobility aids and hearing assistance devices to vision aids and communication tools, we offer a wide range of adaptive aids to help our residents live their lives to the fullest. We are dedicated to ensuring that all of our residents have access to the support and resources they need to thrive, and our adaptive aids program is just one of the many ways we fulfill this commitment.

ABF Ensemble

The ABF Ensemble is a beloved program that provides our residents with an opportunity to showcase their musical talents. Whether singing or playing an instrument, our residents are able to express themselves and share their love of music with others. The ensemble regularly performs at our seasonal gatherings, bringing joy and entertainment to all who attend. This program not only promotes creativity and self-expression, but also fosters a sense of community and belonging among our residents. We are proud to offer this program to our residents and look forward to the many performances to come.

Descriptive Broadway reenactments

Our descriptive Broadway reenactments are a unique and exciting program that brings the magic of Broadway to our residents. Using vivid language and detailed descriptions, our performers transport our residents to the world of their favorite musicals. From classic shows like “Crazy World, the Life and Times of Julie Andrews” and “The Odd Couple,” our reenactments are a thrilling and immersive experience for our residents. We believe that access to the arts is an important part of promoting independence and overall well-being, and our descriptive Broadway reenactments are just one of the many ways we fulfill this commitment. We are proud to offer this program to our residents and are continually working to expand our offerings and provide new opportunities for our residents to engage with the arts.

Cleaning services

At Selis Manor, we recognize the importance of a clean and healthy living environment for our visually impaired residents. We are actively working towards launching a comprehensive cleaning services program. This initiative will aim to assist our residents by taking care of their cleaning needs, allowing them to focus on other essential aspects of their lives. Our goal is to provide peace of mind and enhance their sense of independence.

Companion Services

Companions

At Selis Manor, we are dedicated to enhancing the daily lives of our visually impaired residents. We are exploring the possibility of introducing companion services to offer invaluable support and build meaningful friendships. These dedicated volunteers will provide a range of essential services, such as reading mail, magazines, letters, and other periodicals, as well as running errands like grocery shopping and picking up medications from the pharmacy. This assistance will allow our residents to focus on other important aspects of their lives while enjoying the company of a friendly companion.

Community Events

At ABF, we understand the importance of fostering a sense of community and companionship among our residents. That’s why we host a variety of seasonal events and regular community gatherings throughout the year. These events provide opportunities for our residents to come together, share their experiences, and enjoy each other’s company. Whether it’s a holiday party, a bingo night, or a Broadway reenactment, our events are always lively and engaging. We believe that creating a strong sense of community is key to promoting independence, happiness, and overall well-being among our residents. We are proud to offer these events as a way to bring our community together and create lasting memories for our residents.

Health

Health and Wellness

Our health and wellness services help residents live their best lives by providing education and assistance that meets their needs. Our current Health and Wellness services include:

  • Fostering independent living through a cleaning service program. 
  • Working with social workers and agencies to provide lectures about safety endemic preparedness, such as COVID-19. 
  • Medicaid and social security forms and paperwork assistance.
  • Keeping the residents safe with on-site security.

Many of our services are run by volunteers and funded by your donations. We welcome you to get involved and share your talents and expertise.
